In My 9th grade humanities class we read the book The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros. We read it because we had done a project similar to what the style of writing is in the book. We called it the My Adventure Book. The Adventure book was a series of vignettes written by us, and had art relating to each vignette also created by us.in the house on mango street we look into the life of Esperanza. From not liking her name to dreaming about the house that we will own, the book is a series of vignettes about her life.
I think my favorite part in the book is when the story turned kinda dark and it talks about abuse And assault as well. I like this because Esperanza is voicing her concern and opinion to the reader and it kinda teaches you how to see the signs of abuse and how serious it is. One chapter called “The girl who sees mice” it’s talks about a girl who now that their mother is gone she has taken responsibility to make her family’s tortillas.
I would definitely recommend this book, it is a lot of fun to read and has you hooked, even though it is not a story with one big plot. I have actually recommended it to my mother when we were out visiting my grandparents she said that the had liked it to.
