Dry- Firing Drills -
The most effective way to improve your Trap Shooting without firing a shot!
To practice 16 yards targets on the ten foot wide chart stand 13 feet from the chart, each foot back from 13 feet is like a yard in handicap with 27 yards being at 24 feet.
If you have specific targets that are giving you trouble you should work on them first.
Otherwise do the following:
First, move across the chart from left to right making a move to each of the 13 target’s lead dots. When you have completed each of the targets begin again from the right side and move right to left. When you have completed your right to left practice make 13 to 25 random moves.
Make sure you are using snap caps when you are practicing your dry fire exercises.
Your point of aim should be about six inches above the top of the edge of the trap house - then you should look into the grass at a small spot on the chart where the gun is pointing for about two seconds to get that “Quiet Eye” - “Soft Focus” then quickly look up to the targets lead mark, swing to the lead mark and click the trigger on the mark making sure to follow through at least a few inches past the lead mark.
As long as your eyes are getting to the target ahead of your gun you are using the chart correctly.
The “Follow Through” is very important it teachers you to stay on the gun for a second or two without lifting your head after you pull or release the trigger. You need to build up the muscle memory move of not lifting your head when you pull the trigger - the wall chart will give you that.
Remember - practice alone does not make perfect - perfect practice makes perfect!
