Use of Chemicals
The following information will serve as a guideline for Coaches and Athletes.
It should be noted that due to the severity of combination of Firearms and Chemicals it is possible that an athlete is removed from the team for the remainder of the season.
MSHSL AND DISTRICT 270 DISCIPLINARY ACTION/ SANCTIONS
A. Chemical Violations * 2 Strike Policy
First Violation: Student and parent must meet with appropriate building athletic administration before eligibility is reinstated. No exception is permitted for a student who becomes a participant in a treatment program. First offense carries a 2-week/2-contest suspension, whichever is greater.
Second Violation: Student must participate in a chemical evaluation performed by an outside agency and must comply with all recommendations coming from that evaluation. No exception is permitted for a student who becomes a participant in a treatment program. Second violation carries a 3-week/6-contest suspension, whichever is greater.
Third and Subsequent Violations: Student must participate in a chemical evaluation performed by an outside agency and must comply with all recommendations coming from that evaluation. Third and subsequent violations carry a 4-week/12-contest suspension, whichever is greater.
Accumulative Penalties: Penalties shall be accumulative beginning with and throughout the student's participation on a high school, junior varsity, B- Squad, sophomore or junior high team or activity as noted in Regulations Section IV.
Denial Disqualification: A student shall be disqualified from all interscholastic athletics and activities for nine (9) additional weeks beyond the student's original period of ineligibility when the student denies violation of the rule, is allowed to participate, and then is subsequently found guilty of the violation.
IF a chemical violation occurs at practice or at a competition, the athletes in question will be immediately removed from the team. Pending a meeting with Parents and School Administration the athlete will forfit his or her opportunity to participate on the team for the remainder of the athletes time in the Hopkins Schools.
