Indoor Color Guard is an extra-curricular activity at HHS. Our group performs at competitions in the Scholastic Regional A Class in the Tournament Indoor Association circuit. The Indoor Color Guard performs to a song chosen to fit the theme each season, while expressing the message of the song through use of dancing, flags, rifles, and sabres. The Hershey High School Indoor Color Guard is open to all students in grades 9- 12 interested in the art of performance. Auditions are held in late October/early November for spot placement, and rehearsals and performances take place from December through late April/early May.
Instructor: Ms. Heather White

AUDITION CLINIC - Thursday, October 9th from 6-8pm
This is designed for students that plan on auditioning for indoor guard and have no experience in their desired equipment area. If you have never done color guard before (indoor or outdoor), you will be taught some flag basics that you must know before auditions. If you are auditioning for rifle or sabre line and have not been on one (or both) of the lines in a previous color guard season, you will be taught some weapon basics that you must know before auditions.
Extra equipment can be signed out for audition preparation by any student.
FLAG & DANCE AUDITION - Sunday, October 19th from 12-3:30pm
Required for anyone interested in the 2026 indoor guard program. If you have signed out equipment at the audition clinic, you are responsible for bringing it with you to auditions. You also must have submitted an audition sign-up before the deadline (coming soon).
RIFLE & SABRE AUDITION - Sunday, October 19th from 4-7pm
Required for anyone interested in either of these equipment areas (must have at least 1 previous flag season as experience). If you have signed out equipment at the audition clinic, you are responsible for bringing it with you to auditions. You also must have submitted an audition sign-up before the deadline (coming soon).
**All three of these events will be held at Granada Gym. This building is located on E Granada Ave near the District Office and the Hershey Theatre.**
Performance times are unknown until roughly 1-2 weeks before each competition and are available on the TIA website.
*TO BE DETERMINED*
While prior experience is not required to audition for indoor color guard, it is strongly encouraged due to the fast-paced and meticulous environment. It is recommended to learn basic color guard and dance skills during the outdoor color guard season (more information about outdoor color guard can be found on the Color Guard page.) There is also a clinic session held before auditions to help prepare students that have no experience in certain areas.
Any Hershey High School student from 9th-12th grade can audition for indoor color guard. Students that reside in Derry Township School District and attend Dauphin County Technical School or participate in a Home Education program are also eligible to audition indoor color guard.
Auditions are broken into 4 separate areas: dance, flag, rifle, and sabre. Dance and flag auditions are required for all students interested in joining indoor color guard. Rifle and sabre auditions are only required for those that are interested in those areas.
During each area's allotted time-slot, common skill and techniques from that area are reviewed. Students are then taught a short phrase of choreography in the area before formally performing the phrase for the indoor guard staff.
Shortly after auditions, the results are posted on this indoor color guard page.
Auditions take place in late October/early November. Between early December and late April/early May, rehearsals are on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Competitions are all-day events that take place on Saturdays (the competition schedule is typically available shortly before auditions).
