Mixamo is an auto rigger website where we can upload our .fbx (low poly model) to the site, and it will promt us to place markers down on the desired areas. We could also download one of the already made ones on the site if we wanted to. I used my University e-mail to log in to the site as they are affiliated with Adobe.
We drag and drop our model.fbx file into the website, and then we need to proper orient the model if it is not already facing the right way.
The auto rigger promts us to drag and drop the markers onto the correct palces on our model, if we had individual fingers etc we can change the Skeleton LOD below it.
The rigging can take some time.. mine was fairly quick though!
After the character has been rigged - you have a ton of already done animations to choose from to the left. To apply to the character you can simply click on the animation you want to view. Depending on the animation it might take a while to load.
Examples
Some breakdancing??
Angry idle animation
Female still pose
Zombie Idle Screenshot
Exporting our Substance textures to Sketchfab -
Going to File -> Export Textures -> Cancel on all the popups that come up, then opening our .ZIP file to delete "model.dae" file. We then find our download from Mixamo, rename that to model.fbx to put it into our .ZIP folder instead.
After exporting the textures and making sure the right model is in the .zip folder, we can upload our file to Sketchfab! At Sketchfab we can properly see our model with textures and our chosen animation or still image. We can edit settings like the backround, animation speed, lighting and other things if desired.
Only thing to note is that we get only 1 upload per month as a free user, unless we make our model/file downloadable to others on the platform. I named the upload appropriately, put in a simple description (not shown below), some tags and put 2 categories on to make it easier for other users to find. I also decided to make my character downloadble as it would make me able to upload another file - since I chose a still pose as my first try.
First try - Still female pose
Studio Soft Environment Lighting Test
Added a background, moved the light so it's directly from the side
Messed around with some lighting and added a background colour
2nd Try - Twist Dance Animation from Maximo
Here's a link to a 2nd upload of my character on Sketchfab, where it has the dance. Available for download as well. Here.I used a GIF maker (Gyazo) to capture the animaton from the Sketchfab file.
Added a background light, some bloom
