Problem Statement:

One of the major problems facing populations all over the globe is the impact of pollution caused by poor waste management. When waste is improperly or excessively disposed of, the resulting pollution can lead to unsanitary living conditions in a population. The act of not devoting enough efforts in such actions like recycling or purchasing more sustainable goods can lead to dire and permanent consequences. People may be aware of the problem but unaware of ways they can contribute in their societies and miss their opportunity to play an active role. If we do not attempt to make strides in making more people aware and active about improving their environmental impact, we may eventually be cause irreparable harm for all life on the planet. A way in which we feel a novel innovation can be made is in the form of a smartphone app due to their simplicity of distribution and ease of use.

Solution Statement:

Our proposal is an smartphone app to assist shopping habits that will help create and foster a socially-integrated network of people that will help encourage more environmentally friendly behaviors by offering appealing incentives. The app is designed to help those who are looking for new motivation in aiding environmentally friendly shopping habits. Consistent shoppers love to be rewarded, and we feel that providing incentives that inspire reducing their impact of environmental waste is a result everyone would like to achieve. While other apps may help simply educate shoppers in more sustainable products, our app seeks to work together with major retailers to also get those items in the hands of customers who use our product!
