Finkenstein Castle Ruines (Burgruine Finkenstein)

Finkenstein Castle is a ruined medieval castle in the market town of Finkenstein, about 50 min. drive from Haus Idyll. It is situated on a steep cliff, high above Lake Faak (Faaker See), at a height of 788 metres (2,585 ft). Today the castle ruin is the backdrop of the Burgarena, an amphitheatre mainly used for concerts and festivals.

Hochosterwitz Castle

Hochosterwitz Castle (German: Burg Hochosterwitz, Slovene: Grad Ostrovica) is considered to be one of Austria's most impressive medieval castles. It is on a 172-metre (564 ft) high Dolomite rock near Sankt Georgen am Längsee. Hochosterwitz is 664 metres (2,178 ft) above sea level. It can be seen from a distance of up to 30 kilometres (19 mi) on a clear day. The rock castle is one of the state's landmarks and a major tourist attraction.

Walk the 620-metre (2,030 ft) long pathway through the 14 gates up to the castle; each gate has a diagram of the defence mechanism used to seal that particular gate. The castle rooms hold a collection of prehistoric artefacts, paintings, weapons, and armour, including one set of armour 2.4 metres (8 ft) tall, once worn by Burghauptmann Schenk.

Bled Castle, Slovenia

Ljubljana Castle, Slovenia

A mighty medieval fortress, the castle of Ljubljana is just one of the castles in the city but certainly the biggest one and also the most visited. Built in the middle of the 15th century, today it is a popular tourist destination. It offers an outstanding view over the city, a romantic atmosphere and a place of numerous cultural events. You will be surprised to find out that you don`t have to pay anything to enter the castle courtyard, where you can relax by a cup of coffee, glass of wine or a piece of cake.

Ljubljana is about 1h drive from Haus Idyll. We recommend parking at the large car park in front of the train and bus station and walk 10 minutes to the Old Town.
