Soil Pit

I think our soil pit was natural, the horizons seemed to be where we expected them to be and there was no sign of previous human activity. There is a layer of more sandy soil towards the bottom of our pit that we think may have been formed during the time of the Champlain Sea. Additionally, the large amount of roots, branches, and other undisturbed organic matter suggest that the area we studied had not been interacted with by humans.
