Manchester United’s interim manager described yesterday’s game as “embarrassing and humiliating” following a heavy loss to Liverpool, who have now beaten them twice this season. After scoring 9 goals and taking 6 points against United, it’s clear that the players have lost interest in the game. Leading to questions like: Are they happy to be humiliated by other clubs, big or small? Where is their pride?
Fans have begun to recognise that the problem is not with the managers, but with the players and the club owners, the Glazers. Is it finally time for the Glazers to leave United after 17 years of ownership?
Last year, during the Liverpool vs Manchester United game, fans broke into Old Trafford and started protesting against the Glazers on the pitch, holding posters that read “Get the Glazers Out”. As a result, the game was postponed. Nothing major came out of this as we all know the Glazers are still in charge. Some fans have been quoted as saying “this club is run by money and power”. It can be said that the club has lost its value for football in favour of profit. A former United player, Gary Neville discussed the problem with United and the owners and said that the Glazers are not fully to blame, other than allowing individuals who are not qualified and do not have great football knowledge to make decisions for the team.
This United team managed to be in 2nd place on the Premier League table last season. Whereas now, they are struggling to be in 5th place. Can we trust them enough to play better next season? They are too unpredictable, therefore, there has to be major changes in order to rebuild and have a better chance in being title run next season. This means selling players who have played very poorly and showed no passion and love for the game, and instead replacing them with players that will put in their everything to make sure this team succeeds and eventually win at least one cup.
