There are statistics that show that if students have a good teacher, they are more likely to move onto college, which benefits them their whole life (increased salary, better home, etc). This is because good teachers should inspire their students to follow their dream career path and go to college. These things result in having a more successful and wealthy life.
As a student, I get frustrated when a teacher moves on too quickly and doesn’t assess the class’s understanding. The couple teachers I’ve had who have done that really make me feel cared about in the classrooms. Students are more likely to ask for help when the teacher listens to their problems and do their best to help them figure it out.
When students feel like they are in a caring environment, they are more likely to want to participate. When a student doesn’t feel comfortable, they tend to be quiet and reserved, which in some cases causes them to do bad in the class.
When I am a teacher and I have a good relationship with the parents, I would be able to know if there was anything going on at home which may affect the student’s learning. Having a good relationship with the parents can also be helpful if I ever need help with an activity, project, etc.
A lot of kids don’t like teachers just simply because they teach to only one type of learning, but when I am a teacher I want to get everyone interested and involved. I can use all the different learning strategies, such as auditory or visual, in order for the lesson to be interesting and helpful to all students. It would be hard to incorporate them all in the same lesson and the same time, but I can have different activities throughout.
I want my students to feel inspired and feel like when they are out of high school, they are able to do whatever they can to make the world a better place. I hope to be the kind of teacher where in 20 years, my former students could look back and remember me and how I made a difference in their life.
