For our senior design project, my team designed a suspension shock for an electric go-kart sized vehicle utilizing piezoelectric technology that would charge the vehicle's battery. The system was designed to use the natural vibrations experienced by the vehicle's suspension system as well as magnets to deform piezoelectric plates. The charge created would then be sent to the vehicle's battery to help with charging and prolong battery life. We covered the full design process, including brainstorming and planning, CAD, prototyping, fabrication, and testing. The housings and endcaps were machined from solid stock by members of the team, with my focus being on the inner cap. 3 critical design reviews were conducted each semester during senior year.
