Applying the theory

In this section I have linked the practices of Joe Wicks "The Body Coach" to two key academic theories related to OEP and Open Pedagogy. My documents are openly available for download and your comments via GoogleDrive. Before you read my summary, use the yellow buttons below to review the evidence offered through hyperlinks (none of which is behind a paywall) and Cormier's video offering a different perspective on learning.

Why Open Education?

The Open Education Consortium sums up their honorable vision:

“a world where everyone, everywhere has access to the high-quality education and training they desire”

Explore the links to see how Joe Wicks "The Body Coach" meets this. I have also summarised my evidence and invite your comments below.

Summary of evidence

I have presented a significant amount of evidence for Joe Wicks "The Body Coach" open practices, mapped to two key thinkers. Academic OEP may argue that because learning resources are not freely available to reuse and remix under a creative commons licence they are not true OER, and that is correct under the original definition (Wiley, OpenContent.org). However, Joe Wicks "The Body Coach" does not operate in a traditional academic environment. A wider view of adult, lifelong learning must be taken, away from learning institutions and into every day life for the non-academic population.

In this view, Joe Wicks "The Body Coach" is a resource among many for learners interested in health and fitness, a lifelong journey with a variety of individual, short term goals to achieve (lose a certain amount of weight, learn to cook healthy food, do a certain number of push ups). Innovative use of platforms open to anyone with an internet connected device has allowed the Joe Wicks "The Body Coach" community to join together, learning and sharing in a way that suits each learner's preferences and goals.
