By 2024, GBHWC’s ability to address the seven core elements of suicide-safer care in its approach to behavioral health services, based on the Zero-Suicide Framework (ZSF), will reach at least a target rating of “4 = Near Comprehensive Practices are in Place.”
This benchmark was completed in Year 4. There are no additional updates in Year 6.
By 2024, GBHWC will have tracked a 4-year implementation record of its Zero Suicide Plan.
Although this benchmark was met in Year 4, the GFOL team developed a Lethal Means Safety Training program from the Lethal Means Safety Campaign the team held in 2023. The culturally-grounded program was designed for veterans and families and piloted with the Guam Focus on Life staff, PEACE staff, and a focus group of adults with lived experience. A total of 16 people participated in the pilot program. The program was then presented at various sites, including the Suicide Mortality Review Site Visit, the GoPEACE Conference, the Guam Early Childhood & Caregivers Academy (GECCA), GBHWC, and Pay-Less Supermarkets. A total of 61 participants completed the training.
By 2024, GBHWC, as a member of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (NSPL) network, will operate a local suicide prevention lifeline that will receive at least 70% of NSPL calls from the island.
During Year 6, 988 received a total of 5,342 calls and answered a total of 5,010 calls. This is an average answer rate of 93.42%. 988 also received a total of 614 chats and 338 texts.
GFOL utilized social media campaigns and static ads to promote the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. The social campaigns included platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube had a total reach of 500,113 people. The static and radio ads in local media and venues had a total reach of 155,431 viewers.
