- Assessment – The competent teacher understands and uses appropriate formative and summative assessments for determining student needs, monitoring student progress, measuring student 6 growth, and evaluating student outcomes. The teacher makes decisions driven by data about curricular and instructional effectiveness and adjusts practices to meet the needs of each student.
"RATIONALE FOR ARTIFACTS CREATED FOR STANDARD 7"
This artifact was created in my Educational Psychology class, in order to show evidence of knowledge in the skill embraced by standard 7 . The standard that focuses on effective assessment. The exam I constructed measures the students understanding of the concepts presented in Chapter 14. The main idea of chapter 14 is “teaching every student”. The book I used as reference is Educational Psychology by Anita Woolfolk. The exam includes 8 multiple choice questions and 2 essay questions. Each multiple choice question is worth 8 points each and the multiple choice are worth 18 points each individually. The questions presented in the exam are at Bloom’s Taxonomy levels. I used google forms to create the exam and the link was shared with the test takers. The answers to the multiple choice questions was graded by google forms according to the answer key I created and the answers for the essay questions were manually graded one by one. I will use the scores in the table with individual and whole class results to analyze, support and explain my results after constructing and administering the exam I constructed .
The test I created and administrate to 10 test takers was created in compliance with performance indicator 7O- effectively uses appropriate technologies to conduct assessments, monitor performance, and assess students progress; google forms was used to construct, administer, evaluate, and release scores.
After Administrating the test and having my test takers results I went on with the test analysis portion that makes compliance with indicator 7K- appropriately uses a variety of formal and informal assessments to evaluate the understanding, progress and performance of an individual student and the class as a whole; The results data on the test I created was as fallows: Overall students has a satisfactory score, there is room for improvement. The highest score was 100 % and the lowest score was 72 %. The results of the whole class were sufficiently good and reasonable. The mean was an 88, the median a 92, the mode 92, and the range was 72 to 100. Overall all the test takers obtained a passing result.
Standard Connection:
To be able to fulfill indicator 7J uses assessment results to determine student performance levels , identify learning targets, select appropriate research based instructional strategies and implement instruction to enhance learning outcomes; I would have to consider the individual results of each of the 10 test takers and the whole class results . I would make usage of my conclusions pertaining how well my questions are written and that the trouble is in the options given as answers in the multiple choice.
Self-Evaluation:
After a noticeable pattern on specific questions and feedback from test takers, I was able to conclude that some answer options on the multiple choice questions might be confusing. I would have to redo the trouble questions. In the future modification of this exam, I would also include an extra credit question for the above average students. In the exam I did state that students might get extra credit by citing the book, but after analyzing the exam result I have realized that the above average students might of not completed such tasks because they were only required to do extra work for extra points, instead of extra points for answering a more challenging question. The students might not felt challenged enough to bother answering. When it comes to students with the lowest scores, I would say that apart from the confusing answer choices, the students might need accommodations that I would consider.
If I had implemented this exam on an actual class of mine I would have to take the next steps in the indicator 7J on implementing instruction to enhance future leaning outcomes.
