FLIP PROJECT PRESENTATION AND QUIZ RATIONALE
A description of my artifacts: I created a lesson and took advantage of the Flipped classroom strategy. My lesson is directed to second grade students. My lesson is in both English and Spanish because it is intended for a groups of students enrolled in a bilingual or dual language setting. My lesson is about animals and the different habitats they live in. The lesson explains what habitat is and introduces three main animal habitats. Students are presented with a colorful, animated and captivating screencast. I made usage of pictures to better explain concepts to the young learners. I stated my learning objective and standard at the beginning of the presentation for clarification on the learning objectives to be meet. Pictures, limited text and my voice were all incorporated to make the artifact complete. Making usage of the flipped classroom strategy saves classroom time for discussion and a hands on project. As an educator I was able to make proper usage of technology tools to assist me as a teacher. I also created a ten-question multiple choice quiz. Students are able to replay the presentation video as many times as they need it.
Making Connections to Standard:
Executing the flip project enriched my professional development as an educator, it allowed me to make proper and beneficial usage of technology tools in a classroom setting. I learned how useful the flip classroom technique can be as it pertains to managing time and making the best usage of classroom time. Using this strategy students can have time to learn at their own pace. The flip classroom strategy can be a great aid and of immense benefit for ESL, bilingual and dual language students. The strategy gives students the opportunity to clarify and resolve any language related challenges before the topic is discussed in the classroom setting. I decided to do my lesson in both languages for the benefit of the students. As Standard 5 indicates “Instructional Delivery – The competent teacher differentiates instruction by using a variety of strategies that support critical and creative thinking, problem-solving, and continuous growth and learning. This teacher understands that the classroom is a dynamic environment requiring ongoing modification of instruction to enhance learning for each student. “ I truly believe that this project has enhance and promote my professional development according to the objectives of standard 5.
Description of what I have learned/ Self-evaluation:
When I first heard about the flipped classroom I was thrill to find out how beneficial it could be from a more personal experience. Conducting this flip classroom project made me realize that implementing technology beyond the classroom setting is of great benefits for the students. Using this strategy children can be given a heads up as to what will be learned and any language barriers can be targeted. I learned a new method to implement in my future role as an educator. I was able to see how beneficial a flip classroom can be for ESL, bilingual and dual-language learners. This type of strategy also aids parents when children need extra support at home. Children can review as much as needed at home and as a result class time can be used more wisely to approach any challenges and work on hands on projects.
