The structure of the IAD is as follows:
Office of the Chief of Police: Deputy Chief of Police - Internal Affairs Director: is in charge of the division and ensures that rules are followed.
Deputy Director of Internal Affairs: Helps oversee investigations and manage the division.
Senior Investigators: Take charge of well-known cases and guide less experienced investigators.
Internal Investigators: Gather information, evaluate it and write reports.
Administrative Staff: Manage record-keeping, paperwork and support duties.
Field Officers and IAD communicate with each other through liaison Officers.
The IAD investigates allegations against all sworn Officers, civilian employees and police auxiliaries. Cases may involve:
Use of excessive force
Corruption or bribery
Violations of civil rights
Criminal Activity by police personnel
Abuse of authority
Neglect of duty or gross incompetence
Discrimination, harassment or retaliation
The IAD works alongside:
