Chief of Police
Appointment made by the mayor of the City, with majority approval of the Police Commission. Should have a college degree and atleast 12 months of progressively responsible law enforcement experience.
Assistant Chief of Police
The Assistant Chief of Police is the second highest rank in the Police Department and reports directly to the Chief of Police.
Specifically the Assistant Chief of Police oversees the Staff Officers below him, aswell as the Command Staff Officers. The Assistant Chief of Police represents the Department at Community and Business meetings to promote the Departments mission.
Deputy Chief of Police
The Deputy Chief of Police is the third highest rank in the Police Department and reports directly to the Chief of Police or the Assistant Chief of Police. The Deputy Chief can be promoted from the rank of Captain or Commander.
Specifically the Deputy Chief oversees and directs the activities of patrol officers asigned within his/her bureau. The Deputy Chief represents the Department at Community and Business meetings to promote the Departments mission.

Commander
The duties of the Commander are dependent upon his/her assignment to a specific bureau. It includes overseeing and directing the activities of patrol officers, coordination of detectives, exercising functional supervision over officers engaged in traffic enforcement functions.

Police Captain I / II / III
The Captain acts as a Commanding Officer of a Bureau and senior Watch Commander. As a Bureau Commanding Officer, one of his main tasks is to lead his division and ensure that it works. The Captain is authorized to issue instructions to the Officers below his salary level.

Police Lieutenant I / II
The Police Lieutenant acts as the assistant Commanding Officer of a Bureau and can act as a Division Officer in Charge. As the so-called right-man to the Captain, he/she helps with the organization, management and control of the Division members. A Police Lieutenant also acts as a Watch Commander and is therefore aslo the contact person of any questions.

Police Sergeant II
A Police Sergeant II takes on more administrative tasks and is particularly trained in supervision. A Police Sergeant II acts as a Shift Supervisor and is therefore authorized ot issue disciplinary measures. Also a Police Sergeant II can take over the role of a Officer in Charge of certain Divisions.

Police Sergeant I
The entry rank for the Supervisor Staff. Employees in the rank of Police Sergeant I are often deployed as second officers in Charge of a Division. A Sergeant is - despite the classification in the Supervisory Command Officer - not entitled to take disciplinary measures without informing or the approvement of a Sergeant II or higher.

Police Detective III
Promotion based on panel interview/departmental assessment. A Police Detective III is most often deployed as Assistant Officer in Charge of a Detective Division. In this position, the Police Detective III leads and is responsible for his Division. Detectives in this grade are considered experienced investigators and have authority to give orders to Detectives below. Equivalent to a Police Sergeant II if STP completed.

Police Officer III+1
Certain Police Officer III in special or hazard pay situations are denoted by a Police Officer III insignia and a star. These roles can include traffic follow-up investigators, canine training officers, SWAT Platoon element leaders and Senior Lead Officers who coordinate geographical areas. Also experienced Members of the Professional Standards and Development Bureau are holding up this rank.Â

Atleast another 1 month service as a Police Officer before becoming eligible for promotion to Police Officer III+1. In the rank of a Police Officer III you do the geneneral duties of a regular Police Officer. The Police Officer III is mostly direct contact of the Police Officers for questions or anything.

Automatic promotion to Police Officer II upon satisfactory completion of a 1 month probationary assignment. In the rank of a Police Officer I you do the general service of a Police Officer.
