The Operations Central Bureau is fully responsible for the day to day routine inside the Los Angeles Police Department. As the back bone of the Los Angeles Police Departments the officers are trianed to deal with almost every situation in Los Angeles. The main responsibility is Community Engagement and Safety as well als the general Law Enforcement. The Operations Central Bureau also includes the Air Support Division.
The Los Angeles Police Departments Detective Bureau is responsible for investigative work in the Police Department and takes on, for example, investigations against criminal organizations and preservation of evidence at crimes scenes. More responsibilities are:
Gang and Narcotics
The Gang and Narcotics Unit is responsible for disrupting violent street gangs and the means by which they support their lifestyle, including the manufacture, transportation, sale and use of illicit drugs, and sales of firearms in Los Angeles. GNU's enforcement efforts also focus on street level enforcement strategies to effect a reduction in felony crimes, thereby resolving community problems and facilitating uniformed Officers involvement in narcotics and gang enforcement.
Robbery and Homicide
The Robbery and Homicide Unit is responsible for investigating select homicides, bank robberies, serial robberies, extortions, sexual asasaults, human trafficking, kidnapping, incidents that result in injury or death to an Officer, and threats against Officers.
Vice and Major Crimes
Vice is responsible for investigating missing persons, hate crimes, threats made to public officials/prominent persons, aggravated stalking, piracy and counterfeit sales/goods, animal cruietly, pimping/pandering, pornography and prostitution/human trafficking.
The Metropolitan Division provides the Los Angeles Police Department specialised tactical resources in support of operations during daily field activities, unusual occurences and elevated threat conditions. The mission is to establish a department-wide collaborative, consistend and coordinated approach to field situations with an emphasis on stratetical depth.
Specialized Patrol Unit
Officers with special training are part of the Specialized Patrol Unit. These are usually equipped with assault rifles and advanced tactical equipment. Officers who belong to the Specialized Patrol Unit are full Metropolitan members.
The Professional Development and Standards Division is responsible for the internal education and training of all officers. Regular training courses are just as much part of the Professional Development and Standards Division tasks as training Cadets to become Officers. This Division is also responsible for recuiting and administratrive work, like issuing weapon licenses.
The primary task of the Internal Affairs Division is to ensure that internal regulations, laws and the conduct of officers on duty can be guaranteed at all times. The Internal Affairs Division within the Los Angeles Police Department acts as an internal investigation unit and focuses primarily on investigations of officers and the department, regardless of rank.
