Class: DMET 526 - Organizational and Administration of Instructional Technology
My technology plan was written for a large urban school and my focus was on the technical needs of the math department. I first completed a needs assessment for the school and then analyzed the budget of the school district and how much money is allocated for technology. I also learned about the importance of grant writing to get specialized tools for the classroom that are not part of the budget. Lastly, I created a plan on what technology is required and made recommendations for how to fund the technology.
The technology plan I created is based on the school where I had worked for 20 years. I thought after all that time I knew the school very well and was very aware of the needs of the school. This project showed me that there is more to the functioning of a school then I was aware and it enlightened me to what issues there are within a school, especially in the area of technology. The size of the school and the financial needs to cover the technology of a large school seems impossible. As a teacher, I was never concerned with the budget or grant writing but now I understand the importance for teachers to get involved, especially when dealing with grants. Teachers need to be aware of the technology budget for their school because they know the needs of the students and they can advice administration on what technology should be ordered.
