Class: DMET 530 - Instructional Design for Effective Learning
This artifact focuses on a geometry unit and is structured using Gagne's Nine Events of Instruction. The focus of the unit is based on clear, measurable and attainable goals. Instruction is developed and measured on the goals. Technology is incorporated into the classroom at the comfort level of the teacher using the online tools of the curriculum, promethean board and other tools such as gamification.
The learning module was generated by instructional goals that I needed to establish prior to creating the unit and determining how technology can support the goals and the curriculum. I focused on the resources or tools available with the curriculum. I found writing a unit in this manner is time consuming but allows for reflection and modifications based on the performances of the students so that all students needs are being addressed. The learning module did not follow a scripted curriculum lesson with technology thrown in as a different type of activity so students do not lose interest but blends curriculum, instruction and technology.
Class: DMET 520 - Selection and Application of Learning Technologies
This project required me to research how mathematics was taught in the past and present and concepts of future classrooms that helped me plan an ideal classroom. I wrote a philosophy of teaching mathematics, lesson planning, layout including technology and furniture and budgeting for my ideal classroom. The project had many steps to complete the final website but each step was engaging and fun because it allowed me to be creative and use my imagination to create what I believe would be perfect learning environment.
This project articulates, applies and adapts theoretical concepts of effective learning by having a adaptable classroom that is more engaging and meets the needs of students. My notion includes technology integration, project based lessons, and assessments that can be more inclusive to all learning types. The traditional classroom needs to evolve to the upcoming generations way of processing knowledge and draw them into wanting to learn and go to school.
