Our Music

Musically, the choir has something for everyone with a repertoir stretching from the seventeenth century of Purcell and Handel through to Andrew Lloyd-Webber of the present day, and not forgetting the special choral works by Edmund Walters, the arrangements by Alan Simmons, Mike Sammes to mention but a few. British music is well represented with the much loved music of Hugh Roberton, Edward Elgar, Vaughan Williams and not forgettingthe welsh influence by Joseph Parry, Mansell Thomas, Ieuan Rees-Davies and the poetry of Dylan Thomas.

The classical period of Mozart, Schubert, Verdi, Dvorak, Wagner and many others forms an important part of the choir's collection, as do the favourite works of manynations; thedynamic Russian music of Alexandrov, the ever popular 'Comrades in Arms' from french composer Adolphe Adams' ballet "Giselle"as well as traditional American folk songs and the modern music of Rodgers and Hammerstein or Simon and Garfunkel. So whether you wish to hear from musical comedy to grand opera or from Gilbert and Sullivan to Lennon and McCartney and Queen, your tastes will be satisfied.

Although the choir has moved with the times in its music selection its Music Committee has also kept faithful to the choir's tradition and heritage by including a selection of traditional and challenging male voice choir music in its concert programmes. This also helps to keep in line with the choir's prescribed cultural objects in its constitution.
