We have just had a wonderful and successful tour in Sidmouth, Devon, with beautiful weather. We sang four events in total, two of them accompanied by local choirs.
Our journey lased some seven hours in total allowing for three pick up points and a couple of stops on the way. We were transported by Roberts Coaches and our driver Tom and his gorgeous coach Sharon looked after us wonderfully.
Our stay at the Kingswood Hotel, on the seafront could not have been better located. A short walk into the town, or, if so inclined, to the beach and sea. The food was excellent and we were well looked after by the delightful staff.
There were walks around the town and beyond, and the sea, although rather cold, still managed to attract 3 choristers (so far as we are aware) for a morning swim.
A group visited the nearby Donkey Sanctuary and between us, a fair number of Cream Teas with scones, jam and clotted cream were consumed!
On the Friday (8th May 2026) we sang at Bicton Botanical Gardens which was a picturesque setting on a lovely sunny spring day. We found a good place to sing facing a sculptured garden ending in a square landscaped lake. We sang our hearts out for an hour and drew in a decent crowd.

On the Saturday we performed at St Margaret’s Church, Topsham with Budleigh Salterton Male Voice Choir with both choirs singing a set in each half and with 2 joint items at the end of each half. This was followed by an afterglow at the Lighter Inn for pasties and drinks and more singing but in a more relaxed setting.

On Sunday afternoon we performed at Sidmouth Parish Church of St Giles & St Nicholas with Resonate Choir (formally know at Exeter Male Voice Choir).
We retired to the Anchor Inn after for a drink and another less formal sing. The regulars were certainly treated.

On Monday we headed home to South Derbyshire with a stop at Exeter Cathedral for our final performance. We sang for 45 minutes and drew an appreciative audience of tourists who had an unexpected concert whilst visiting this beautiful building.

And so we headed home after a busy, fulfilling and satisfying 5 days away. We are ready for a rest both physically and vocally and we'll be ready for our next outing on Saturday 6th June 2026 at The Palace, Ibstock.

Based in South Derbyshire, England, the Choir takes its name from the "Gresley Primitive Methodist Church", where the choir was born with 13 singers on the "Men's Sunday" in 1904. The choir has over 40 members and fulfils on average 22 engagements a year. We sing the best of modern and traditional TTBB music. We are a friendly bunch of gents and are keen to recruit new members.
We firmly believe that singing has enhanced our lives by improving mental and physical wellbeing. We have two choristers in their 90s and one member has been with the choir for 65 years.
