Our Pre-CanSkate program is for skaters who are new to skating. Most skaters are 3-5 years of age but we will take skaters who are younger and are able to be on the ice for 30 minutes without a parent/guardian.
Sessions are 30 minutes in length, once a week and run from October to March. We also offer spring sessions in April and May. Once skaters have mastered their skills in Pre-CanSkate, they will receive their Pre-CanSkate ribbon and be ready for the CanSkate program.
Our CanSkate program is Canada's premier learn to skate program. Skaters rotate from station to station where they work on their basic skating skills. CanSkate graduates from across Canada have gone on to become some of the country's best figure skaters, hockey players, and ringette players.
Each level of CanSkate consists of 3 ribbons: balance (forward skills, control (backward skills and stopping), and agility (jumping and turning). Skaters practice these skills at different stations on the ice and once they get all 3 ribbons, they get their badge for their level. At the end of the season, skaters get their report card which lists all of the skills they have mastered and what their next steps are. Once skaters complete stage 3 of CanSkate, they are ready to join our Junior/Star 1 program.
