Oscar Percy Muehlberg was born in Lobethal on the 9th of April 1907. He was named after Paul’s brother Carl ‘Oskar’ Wilhelm Mühlberg who died at age 19.
Oscar Percy married Bertha Matilda Dohse at Zion Lutheran Church in Swan Reach. Brother ‘Ernie’ was witness. Oscar and Bertha had six daughters together. Oscar and Bertha lived at Nildottie and later Clare, where most of the children were born. Oscar worked on vineyards in the Clare district and as a shearer at White Hut, Yorke Peninsula around time of marriage breakdown in 1943.
Oscar’s occupations were numerous. He quarried stone to construct the Mannum Lutheran Church, sunk bores around Port Augusta while living out of a caravan and worked over two decades as a mechanic. His employers included Litchfield Engineering Co Ltd, Croydon Park (c1940-1946); Universal Motors Pty Ltd, Adelaide (c1956); Carnes Garage Ltd, Murray Bridge (c1959); Motor Services, Sunshine (c1962); and Moe Transport & Engineering Service Pty Ltd, Moe (c1966). His talents were also musical as he is remembered to often play a piano button accordion. After he retired, he adopted woodwork as his hobby.
After his first marriage, Oscar married Edna Grace Joyce Oliver. Together they lived at Osborne. It is thought that Edna was born in Sydney in 1908. Edna Grace Joyce Muehlberg died on the 4th of June 1973. She was buried two days later at Cheltenham Cemetery.
Following a move to Melbourne, Oscar married Nellie Catherine McBride nee Stephens, daughter of a New Zealand Miner. Nellie had four daughters from a previous marriage to George S. Tindal. Whilst living in Victoria, a car hit Oscar as he redirected traffic around a hazard. The consequence was an intermittent uncontrollable shake owing to nerve damages to his arm.
On the 3rd of June 1983, Oscar died age 76 of a heart attack at Doncaster near Box Hill, where he lived with wife Nellie. Both Oscar and Nellie rest at Springvale Botanical Cemetery, Dodonaea memorial garden, Garden N4, Bed 3, Rose 27.
