Anybody can do it! No matter your size, body type or gender anyone can wrestle. Different weight classes make it fair, so competitors are never too small or too large.
A great workout. Even the most fanatic basketball enthusiast acknowledges there is no better workout than wrestling. Wrestlers work out their entire body all at once. This requires a lot of core strength and the non-stop action makes wrestling one of the best cardiovascular endurance sports on the planet.
Self-Confidence. Because wrestlers are on the mat by themselves, they are accountable for everything that happens – both good and not-so-good. Only the most confident of athletes choose sports where their success or failure is entirely up to themselves.
Work-Ethic. If you have ever meandered anywhere close to a mat room during wrestling practice you know how hard wrestlers work. Toughness is an essential trait of any wrestler – it’s called grappling for a reason. Also, focus and concentration are learned quickly because in a split-second a wrestler can find themselves in some pretty uncomfortable positions if they let their mind wander.
Transferable skills to other sports. Because of the flexibility, strength, explosiveness and agility required to wrestle, it requires a tremendous amount of athletic skill. Those skills transfer easily to most all other sports and commonly, collegiate football coaches look for wrestlers first when deciding who to recruit.
IT'S FUN, FUN, FUN!! Dodgeball is an all time favorite among kids & coaches! During the season we usually do a swim & pizza party and finish the season with a banquet. We also like to go check out one of the local college wrestling match ups. The kids are brought out before one of the high school matches for GLJW/Alumni Recognition night. This past summer we held a summer wrestling series for all of our wrestlers, K to high school, featuring some great talents such as Luke Pletcher, Zack Zavatsky, and Micky Phillippi.
