Wrestling practices are held Tuesdays and Thursdays during the season from 6pm to 8pm in the JR High gym.
We are part of the Keystone League; our league typically wrestles once a week either on a Saturday or Sunday beginning in December. Finals for the league are usually late January/early February. The start times range from early morning to early afternoon (depending on your age).
See also Keystones for more detailed information on how they run.
Clean shorts/t-shirt. No baggy clothes. (Fingers can get twisted in shirts that are too big when you are wrestling)
Clean wrestling shoes. (These are to be put on once your child has entered the gym. NO street shoes are permitted on the mats at any time.)
Headgear
Water bottle
A dedicated wrestling bag is often helpful to keep everything together going to and from practice. Make sure to clean shoes & headgear after EVERY practice.
Please label all your wrestler's gear with their name, so if it's forgotten in the gym, we can get it back to you.

To be considered an active GLJW wrestler, you must attend 1/2 of practices (once a week), attend tournaments and help with fundraisers/volunteering. At each practice, parents should sign in at the table so we know your child is here. If you must leave practice, be sure to let someone know and leave a number where you can be reached in case of an injury/emergency. Only active wrestlers will be able to participate in the end of the year banquet in April.
At practice, our coaches will do their best to create match-ups based on weight, age, ability, and aggressiveness – our goal is to have kids love the sport of wrestling, not get beat up. We usually have 3 groups at practice and coaches try to place the kids where they will learn the most -- beginner, intermediate, and advanced. At the Keystone league, coaches will also pair your child up with other children of similar age, weight, and experience level. For example, if this is your child's first year wrestling, he's 6 and weighs 50 lbs -- he'll likely be up against other 6 yr olds who weigh 50lbs and it's also their first year wrestling.
