For the inaugural year of the Gran Potato Cup. We had a lot of really fast and close racing. I think it's safe to say that the Gran Potato Cup was a massive success and a lot of people have bought into the idea. This sim-racing series should be around for a long while and it has proven how sustainable it was with the attendance at each event.
Even though we had some close racing, it was clear that one person was especially prepared to take the crown as the first ever Gran Potato Cup Champion. During the Q1 Event, Mike Hansen started the season off a little wobbly. He was able to rebound from an early loss and proved he had the stuff of a champion by beating Greg McKeever, the favorite going into the season, twice in the Grand Finals to take the first ever Gran Potato Cup Event Winner's Title.
Heading into the Q2 Event, Hansen showed that Q1 was not a fluke. He qualified on pole position and stormed through the field to beat Greg again in the Grand Finals, finishing with a perfect 4-0 record.
The Q3 Event, was more of the same as Hansen replicated his Q2 outing by qualifying on pole and finishing with a 4-0 record for the 2nd straight event. This time Greg was not able to participate, so Stephen Trigueiro had to play the part of second fiddle. The question now became, who could stop Hansen?
In the Q4 Event, we got that answer as Hansen went for an unprecedented perfect season in the very first year of the Gran Potato Cup competition. Things were looking good for him as he once again started on pole position for the third straight time. This time though, Stephen had his number as he was able to snap Hansen's 15 consecutive match up winning streak and finish the event with a perfect 4-0 record.
Hansen had a pretty dominate season and stamped his authority on this year's championship by finishing with 95 out of a possible 100 points. He has set himself as the man with the target on his back for future seasons to come.
