'Still Life in a Paper Bowl'
I applied heat to strips of thermal paper and attached them with tape on the back to create a blank canvas that I would utilise negative space to create a pixelated Super Mario print. I used acetone (nail polish remover) to 'paint' the whites of the character, using more acetone on the areas that needed to be lighter. I think I'd like to look into this practice further, as the use of acetone and thermal paper created interesting textures in the paper without disturbing the actual integrity of the paper. The last experiment was with the use of ripping heated thermal paper to create vertical mountainous scenes, using contrast and the heat patterns to create a foggy/misty landscape.
I used the experimental patterns on the thermal paper created by the heat, and combined it with two old canvases. There were greenish undertones in the thermal ink, so I used bright orange duct tape to break up the almost newspaper-like collage. I also used PVA glue to create strings of white - the paper was extremely sensitive to any sort of contact, seen in a few sections through the brush strokes left by the glue and blobs of white where it previously was dark ink.
