I am a 4th year architectural engineering student at Addis Ababa science and technology university, I want to build/ create with a passion for sustainable and innovative design. Throughout my academic journey, I've developed a unique perspective on architecture, focusing on creating functional, beautiful, and eco-friendly spaces. My experiences in various projects and extracurricular activities have honed my skills and deepened my commitment to enhancing urban environments through thoughtful and creative design.
My project proposal was on implementation of E-Prescribing System (IEPS), The purpose of this project was to implement an e-prescribing system that streamlines the prescription process, enhances patient safety, and improves operational efficiency in medical practices. a system that will enable healthcare providers to electronically send prescriptions to pharmacies, reducing errors and improving the patient experience. But by a majority vote we finally decided to design a drying machine for efficient tomato powder production.
Met with Advisor and Introduced Ourselves: We started the project by meeting with our advisor. This initial meeting allowed us to introduce ourselves to each other, sharing our backgrounds, skills, interests and our departments. Then We took orientation about the general concepts about IETP and created a telegram group to communicate with each other. which was a crucial step in setting the foundation for effective teamwork and collaboration.
Initial Discussions to Foster Understanding: After introductions, we had a telegram discussion and we engaged in in-depth discussions to get a better understanding of each team member's strengths and perspectives and each was tasked to brainstorm potential project ideas for the next meeting.
Brainstorming Sessions to Explore Project Ideas: We conducted several brainstorming sessions where we freely shared and discussed six project ideas on the telegram group and anonymously voted on the ideas by creating a poll.
Research and Information Gathering: Once we had a shortlist of potential project ideas, into three:- 1) medication dispensing IoT system
2) Long Lasting Tomato Powder Production and the machine
3) Smart Adaptive Parking System
then we proceeded with thorough research. Each team member took on specific topics related to the selected concepts, gathering detailed information, reviewing existing literature, and examining case studies. Based on our research findings, we identified the essential components and specific objectives required to achieve our project goals. we also focused on defining the specific problems our initiative aims to solve.
finally, we met with our advisor on week 2 and pitched him the 3 ideas and he helped us pick the one during our meeting which was the tomato powder production because it is inclusive of all the departments and based on SDG alignments.
This week, our group had a productive meeting to initiate the preparation of our project proposal. We organized tasks, decided on the proposal's structure, and assigned responsibilities. I was assigned to work on the introduction, part of the objectives, and the problem statement. I dove into research, compiling my findings and drafting my sections. I also prepared a word document about my findings of the topic to the group which marked my first contribution to the proposal, laying a solid foundation for our project's narrative and ensuring that our objectives and problem statement are well-defined and supported by evidence.
After submitting our project proposal to our advisor, we received insightful feedback that highlighted areas for improvement. Our team gathered to review his comments and discuss the necessary revisions. Each member diligently worked on their respective sections, implementing the suggested changes to enhance the clarity and coherence of our proposal. We carefully edited the document to address all the feedback, ensuring that our project narrative was well-defined and compelling. Once the revisions were completed, we sent the updated sections to our group leader, who compiled them into a cohesive final draft. After a thorough final review to ensure everything was polished and aligned, our group leader submitted the proposal as our final submission.
This week, we met with our advisor to update him on our progress and discuss our next steps. After our discussion, we regrouped to conduct the tomato powder experiment in the lab. To gain access to the lab and workshop facilities, one of our team members contacted our advisor and secured an authorization letter. With this letter in hand, we were able to obtain the necessary access and proceed with our experiment.
While half of our team focused on the tomato powder experiment, the other half dedicated their efforts to 3D design and modeling using advanced software. This dual approach allowed us to make significant progress on both the practical and digital aspects of our project. The team working on the 3D models created detailed designs which played a crucial role in the execution of our project.
Our group had a detailed discussion about procuring the necessary materials for our project, assessing their effectiveness and suitability. The electrical and mechanical members conducted a comprehensive cost analysis, presenting the budget breakdown to our advisor through our representative. After reviewing and approving the proposal, our advisor facilitated the transfer of funds to the group which enabled us to proceed with the procurement of materials, ensuring that we are well-prepared to move forward with the project efficiently.
In Week 7, we began constructing our prototype while also working to procure the remaining materials needed for our project. We encountered challenges with cutting the sheet metal and RHS, which required assistance from senior students and took longer than anticipated. Despite these hurdles, we made progress as the preparation of dried tomatoes in the lab was successfully completed.
This week, we achieved a significant milestone by completing our prototype, leaving only minor details to be finalized. We are now rigorously testing it to ensure it functions correctly and meets our project specifications. Concurrently, finalizing the project's documentation, including our e-portfolio and comprehensive report, with each member contributing their insights. Additionally, i was tasked with designing an A1 panel poster for our project to visually communicate our project's scope and outcomes. This involves carefully selecting content and design elements to ensure it is both informative and engaging.
