Pit Stop is a planning and monitoring tool that supports schools in considering the various aspects of a reading programme that nurtures lifelong readers.
The tool could be used during the planning or formative stages of the school’s reading programme or at the start and end of every academic year. This tool can be used as regularly as the school deems fit.

The tool should be used flexibly by the Nurturing Lifelong Readers school team according to the context and needs of the school with regard to the current reading programmes.
Below are two key ways to consider using this tool:
Diagnostic
It can be used as a planning tool to identify the tiers and areas of nurturing lifelong learners that the school may want to focus on in the upcoming year. The tool can help the school set both broad and detailed goals in the nurturing of lifelong learners.
Formative
It can be used as a check-in to look at the school’s current progress in the nurturing of lifelong learners and see which areas need development. When used on a regular basis, the tool can monitor the continuity and development of various reading programmes.
Pit Stop comprises four dimensions that support the development of a reading habit:
Access to books (in terms of the range of the available collection, time and space available for reading

Awareness of Student Profile & Provision of Support to Students
