M406>M3317>M3302>M3422>Y132816
The sample comes from the study A Genetic History of the Near East from an aDNA Time Course Sampling Eight Points in the Past 4,000 Years.
SFI-15 was found near Beirut, Lebanon during the Roman occupation of the area (176 BC - 3 CE). The sample was found to be G-M3302>M3422 by the original study but as since been classified as Y132816 with a TMRCA of 2700 BCE. The sample is located on YFull, noted as SFI-15. This man was not a Roman but had Near East/Lebanese autosomal ancestry. This indicates a Phoenician ancestry and possibly a descent from the Syro-Hittites among other possibilities. The Habert et. al. study states that during the Iron Age (approximately 1000 BCE), people in the Near East admixed with individuals of Anatolian and South-East European ancestry. Later, the Persians (539 BCE) made a genetic impact in the region and facilitated movement. One example of this were separate Late Iron Age samples from an ancient family with a Egyptian-Lebanese admixture.
"Seven burials ranging from the 2nd BCE till the 2nd CE (Hellenistic-Roman periods) were excavated in two adjacent sites (Saifi 477 and Saifi 1106) 300m east of Saifi 1075. On those sites, the burials were dug along a road used from the Iron Age III (Persian period) till the late Roman period where architectures from the corresponding periods were found. The burials’ architecture varies between simple pits dug in soil, simple pits with aligned stones on the edges, or stone built burials. They contain one individual placed on the back and in an extended position, either on a north-south/south-north axis east or on an east-west/west-east axis. In some cases, the deceased is accompanied by funerary material composed of pottery vessels or/and ornamental objects (earrings). The use of wooden containers is evident from conserved remains or iron nails."
