Social Emotional Learning is Global Learning
USA
Session Description for Social Emotional Learning is Global Learning
Social Emotional Learning is Global Learning
In many schools and other educational environments, educators consistently look for ways to promote, teach, implement, and reinforce ways for students to interact in positive ways with peers and adults. The CASEL (Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning) framework and Iowa's Social Emotional Learning (SEL) standards focus on teaching students in the areas of self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision-making, relationship skills, and social awareness. When students are able to be aware of their actions, their behavior, and interactions, they begin to recognize their world outside of themselves. Once students who are able to investigate their world through a SEL lens, they can then recognize other perspectives and communicate their ideas. This leads students to then be able to have an impact on their environments, with the hope of making positive changes in not only their lives, but on others’ lives. Thus, all learning is social, all learning is emotional, and all learning is global.
