Transitioning into a self-paced, student-centered learning environment in Japanese public schools.
In 2020 the Japanese Ministry of Education (MEXT) introduced the GIGA School initiative in order to improve the quality of education in Japan and prepare students for “Society 5.0”. To do so, every student in Japan in elementary and junior high school has received a device (laptop-tablet) to support the transition towards differentiated learning. In this presentation I will show how I have been supporting this change in my town’s district, including strategies and challenges, and give attendees a different point of view on how to do the same in their classrooms.
