Global Emergency medicine Resident Curriculum

Welcome to the global emergency medicine curriculum for residents!

This curriculum is designed as an educational resource for emergency medicine residents who are considering a career in global EM, are hoping to learn more about how to get involved in the global EM community, or who simply have an interest in the field. Please see the menu at the top of this page for more on our curriculum outline, monthly lectures, journal clubs, helpful global EM resources, and more.

Components

Monthly Lecture Series
Lectures will be posted on this website once monthly. Check in during the final week of each month for lecture updates.

Multi-Institutional Journal Clubs
There will be two multi-institutional journal clubs yearly held via Zoom for discussion of new and interesting topics within the global emergency medicine sphere.

Global Health Meetings
Optional bi-annual (Winter & Spring) meeting with your university global health mentor. Reach out to your residency-specific mentor to set up a global health meeting. If you do not have a global health mentor within your residency, reach out to us and we can pair you with one at another institution!

Getting the Most out of this Curriculum

There are no quizzes, tests, or mandated assignments. This curriculum was built with the busy emergency medicine resident in mind in hopes that we could fill an educational gap for those who have interest in global EM that extends beyond what you find within your usual residency training. Please view the pre-recorded lectures posted each month. These short lectures are given by global health experts from across the country and serve to address a variety of important topics within modern global EM. We encourage you to post your related thoughts or questions on the discussion forum, and please feel free to comment and engage with one another. On this website, you can also find additional resources and references to deepen your understanding of these topics. Participating in the twice-yearly online journal club is an opportunity to keep up-to-date within the field and meet peers and mentors with similar goals and interests. Please feel free to reach out to us as an additional resource with any questions or comments about the curriculum or related global EM topics.
