EM In Resource-Limited International Settings

Dr. Stephanie Chow Garbern is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at Alpert Medical School of Brown University.  She completed residency training in emergency medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, fellowship in Global Emergency Medicine at Brown, and obtained a Master of Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health and a Diploma in Tropical Medicine & Hygiene through the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine’s East African course. Dr. Garbern’s research focuses on infectious diseases, epidemics including improving COVID-19 response capacity, and leveraging technology including mobile health tools, wearable devices, and machine learning to overcome resource limitations. She has served as a volunteer emergency response physician and consultant for International Medical Corps and has worked clinically or on research projects in more than twenty countries internationally. She is also dedicated to mentorship of students and trainees interested in global health and research careers and improving equity in global emergency medicine and decolonization of the global health field.
