The Conference Program includes three Study Visits, focused on themes and issues of Urban Governance addressed in the Conference. Two of these Study Visits take place in Cidade da Praia (one in the Historic Center; the other on the informal urban areas). The third study visit takes place in Cidade Velha (Unesco World Heritage Site). It will be an opportunity to contact in loco the governance problems and challenges with which these two municipalities (Praia and Ribeira Grande de Santiago/Cidade Velha) are confronted. It is also an opportunity to put in an international perspective the innovative planning approach being implemented by the municipality of Praia in the informal areas. Among other issues, the study visits aim to discuss, on the spot, questions such as these: What planning tools are more appropriate in the informal city? What relations between these planning tools and the formal spatial planning system? These field visits will be guided by Professors from the University of Cape Verde and other planning experts.
