The University of Cape Verde (Uni-CV) is the sole public University in Cape Verde and a reference for the Cape Verde higher education system. Its history can be traced back to the immediate post-independence period when, in 1979, the country's first higher education school was founded. In 2006 the University was created through the merger of three public higher education schools that exited at that time. In 2014 the Rector was for the time elected in direct and free elections. Currently the University has four Faculties and two Schools (Faculty of Sciences and Technologies; Faculty of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts; Faculty of Engineering and Marine Sciences; Faculty of Education and Sport; School of Agrarian and Environmental Sciences; School of Business and Governance).
