To better understand the problem, we conducted background research on relevant topics, from this we learned the following:
· Cost of current Geothermal systems
o Maintenance
o Installation
o Space
· Power requirements
o For a 10x10x10 room from 100 degrees to 75-degree Fahrenheit cooling requirements 5,000 to 7,000 BTU, which is equivalent to 1.5 to 2 kilowatts(kW)
o For a 10x10x10 room from 100 degrees to 75-degree Fahrenheit heating requirements 7,500 to 10,000 BTU which is equivalent to 2.2 to 3.0 kilowatts(kW)
Current solutions include the example below which is a commercial scale ground source heat pump system which moves heat from ambient air in a building into the ground, in effect cooling the building. Geothermal systems like this can deliver as much as five times the energy from the ground.
