Grievance Procedure
As a participant in the Grow Detroit’s Young Talent Program, you have a right to remain free from any type of discrimination on the job. GDYT provides a process for you to file a complaint or grievance if you feel you have been discriminated against during your experience. If you believe your Equal Opportunity (EO) rights have been violated or you have been unfairly treated, you should follow the procedures outlined below. EO policies make it illegal to discriminate against an employee based on age, disability, gender, national origin, pregnancy, race, sexual orientation, and religion.
1. Make an attempt to resolve the issue by discussing it with the supervisor, employer or GDYT Program Partner.
2. If the issue is not resolved or if the issue involves the supervisor or employer, contact GDYT’s Equal Opportunity Officer, Robert Shimkoski, directly at (313) 628-2207.
3. The GDYT Program Directors and appropriate administrators will work to resolve the grievance. If the grievance is not resolved to your satisfaction, you may proceed to the next step.
4. Because the grievance has not been resolved, you may file a complaint with the Civil Rights Center (CRC) in writing at: U.S. Department of Labor, 200 Constitution Avenue NW, Room N-4123, Washington, D.C. 20210.
A summary of the DESC Discrimination, Complaint and Grievance, and Harassment Policy is included in this handbook.
Other Issues
If a problem arises at your worksite you should discuss it with your supervisor first.
