GENERAL DYNAMICS- MISSION SYSTEMS (GDMS) HIGH SCHOOL COMPETITION

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. What is on the targets that can be scoped in on for the first challenge?

A1. There will be a large cardboard box elevated 6 inches above the ground that is inline with the center of the target. After the first shot, it will be moved to the second target. After the second shot, it will be moved to the third target.

Q2. Can the team position parts of the robot before each shot so it is ready to slide the puck?

A2. The team is allowed to position your arm prior to the first shot in each round, including cocking it back. The machine must, without the operator’s intervention, control the actual sliding of the puck (i.e. the machine must release/push/pull the arm after you, the operator, cock it back). This may only be done at the beginning of each round. For round 1, you could do this for the first shot, but not the second and third (only interaction would be setting the puck back up). For round 2, you would only be able to do this for the first attempt. For round three, you could only do it for the first of two shots.
