Practical Information

Schedule

The conference will start on Tuesday morning around 9h15 and end on Saturday before lunch. There will be an excursion on Wednesday afternoon to a vineyard in the hills near Buzias, followed by the conference dinner. There will also be a guided city tour of Timisoara during lunch time on Thursday (sandwiches will be provided).

Venue

Presentations will be held in lecture theatre A32 (third floor), West University of Timișoara (WUT). To reach this room, you can turn right after you enter the university. The second room on the left should be A02. Three floors higher and directly above A02 you can find A32.

Visa

Romania is a member of the EU but is not in the Schengen area. You may check here whether you need a visa or not to enter Romania (see also here, or the list of countries for which you do or do not need a visa to enter Romania for a short visit). You will need a visa of type C/ZA (for cultural or scientific activities). You can apply online for a visa.

Travel

Timișoara can be reached by plane, as follows:

  1. Directly to Timișoara.
    Timișoara Traian Vuia International Airport (TSR) is 12 km away from downtown (where the conference venue is located). There are several daily flights from/to major European destinations operated by Lufthansa, Tarom, Ryanair and WizzAir.
    Express Bus line 4 links the airport with central Timisoara, tickets are available at the parking ticket pay desk, inside the terminal (around 0.55 EUR one way).
    Bus timetables: Express E4 (to city centre) and Express E4b (barred) (to train station)
    The taxis are available for the passengers in front of the two terminals. Be sure to check the logo displayed on the taxi: a (possibly non-exhaustive) list of registered taxi companies can be found here. The taxi fare to G4 or Hotel Timișoara should be around 35–45 RON (8–10 EUR).

  2. To Bucharest, then to Timișoara.
    There are direct flights from Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport (OTP) to Timișoara Traian Vuia International Airport.

  3. To Budapest, then to Timișoara.
    There are regular express buses directly from Budapest Airport (BUD) in Hungary to Timisoara. The trip takes around 5 hours — see e.g. Christian Transfers — Shuttle Budapest Timisoara

  4. To Sibiu, then to Timișoara.
    You may come to Sibiu International Airport (SBZ). From Sibiu to Timișoara you may travel by train or by car.

Timișoara can be reached by train. Direct daily trains to Timișoara are available from Budapest (a six-hour trip), Vienna (8 hours) and Münich (15 hours), Bucharest (10 hours), see e.g. Austrian Railways, German Railways, Romanian Railways.

The public railway company is CFR Călători.

You may use the tram from the railway station (“Gara Timisoara Nord”) to the Cathedral (“Catedrala Mitropolitana”). Then you can walk 10 minutes to the West University. Or you may order a taxi (the fare is between 0.3 EUR/km and 0.5 EUR/km).

Arriving by bus is also possible.

Local Transport

There are multiple transport options in Timișoara, consisting of buses, trolleybuses, trams and private taxis (at very reasonable prices) — see e.g. Transport Urban Timișoara.
