About the lab
Hi there, thank you for looking around!
The lab focuses on the eco-evolutionary dynamics of aquatic organisms, mainly by exploring their differentiation, speciation, and evolution associated with the environmental conditions, and habitat heterogeneity that could affect their distribution patterns and interactions. The main goal is to understand the process by which organisms adapt, and persist in aquatic ecosystems.

Expertise
We use a combination of different approaches, such as population genetics/ genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, phylogeography, and climate niche modeling, typically applied in species of aquatic ecosystems importance.

Luisana Lugo successfully defended her PhD project on 30th April. Congrats!
Lisandro got accepted as a PhD candidate at the engineering department at UCSC. Welcome Lisandro as a PhD student in the lab (co-advisor).
Three grants were successfully approved: two governmental funds (Fondecyt regular) for Maribet as a PI and co-PI (with Gustavo Saiz), and an international exchange collaboration Erasmus +KA171 with Hungary. Exciting new research in eco-evolution dynamics of aquatic insects linking with glaciers, soil microbes communities changes due to fire, and environmental DNA in the Alps.
