The High School Explainer Program at the Exploratorium is a flagship youth program at the museum that offers a unique work-based educational enrichment program for high school and early college students. Explainers work on the museum floor with visitors, exploring hands-on exhibits, facilitating demonstrations, answering questions, and tending to other duties. Explainers observe and explore their own learning processes as they are introduced to broad concepts in a range of scientific disciplines. While they provide a valuable service to the Exploratorium and its visitors, Explainers cultivate their own communication and leadership skills, expand on their scientific knowledge, and learn from each other via peer mentorship.

The High School Explainer: PACE Program is designed to provide young people between the ages of 17-21 with supplemental museum work experience. Explainers are exposed to a variety of museum disciplines while supporting the High School Explainer program in its core mission of providing an interactive social environment rich in both science and the arts in which students can explore phenomena, learn about themselves, and provide the museum with an informed and energetic floor staff.

Mayor's Youth Employment & Education Program (MYEEP) provides San Francisco youth with paid work opportunities, academic support, and tools they’ll need to succeed in the workplace.  MYEEP also gives youth a chance to build relationships with other members of their neighborhood communities.

The pre-employment training period and workshops support youth in gaining the tools needed to enter the workforce.

Student Health Advisory Board (SHAB) consists of 4-10 high school students who work with the Student Family Services Division to promote safe, healthy, and affirming school environments for students across the district. SHAB members come from different public high schools across San Francisco. Their mission is to bring awareness and educate others of the health disparities of tobacco use through the Public Service Announcement contest and promote healthy choices.

About Castro History Tour

The Castro History Tour internship is a paid leadership program for San Francisco-based  LGBTQQ+ youth and allies (13-18). This program is for youth interested in learning about social justice, building community, and has a focus on learning more about queer and trans history. You will be part of collectively planning a walking tour through the beautiful Castro with LGBTQQ+ youth and allies! Interns will leave the internship with a better understanding of the LGBTQQ+ movements and people that influenced San Francisco communities to become what they are today!

The EYC Mentorship program is a 6-12 week program dedicated to the positive empowerment and development of Asian / Pacific Islander LGBTQQ+ youth in San Francisco. Mentorship pairs youth with a QTAPI adult mentor for weekly/ biweekly 1:1 guidance and support.

Youth participants will build a supportive relationship with their mentor, exchange knowledge, advice, and experiences, and learn more about their identities.

Exploring Leadership (EL) is a transformative summer program that trains high school students to become active citizens and assume leadership roles in their communities. Through a set of Coro modules, the program increases Youth Fellows’ abilities in critical thinking and goal setting, ultimately giving them the skills to become effective facilitators and collaborators for community change.

Breakthrough San Francisco is an educational non-profit that supports young people in San Francisco on the path to college and trains outstanding college students for education careers.

Join Generation Chinatown, a paid 15 week artist-in-residence program for SF high school youth. Don’t know what an artist-in-residency program is? No worries! This artist residency is a program that provides artists with studio space, artistic/financial resources, mentorship and  community to support their artistic practices.

Through Generation Chinatown, you will learn from BIPOC local and international artists and gain skills in art-making, interact with local community leaders and learn how artists respond to community issues through art. You will explore new ways of creating alongside a tight-knit group of peer artists, work out of the shared studio at 41 Ross, and create public art in Chinatown.

Emerging Community Leaders is a workshop-based youth services program for high school students!

Staff provide academic support and enrichment, social and leadership skills, health & wellness instruction, and opportunities to explore cultural identity. 

We will be partnering with Magic Theatre on a series of storytelling, performance, and workshops that center on identity, representation, intersectionality, and activism. 

We will also have career exploration, college application, financial aid workshops, and field trips.


Tuesdays and Thursdays at 281 Ellis St.

Monthly Stipend $ based on workshop attendance ($25/workshop)

Every Wednesday in room 119 after school. 

Girls on the Mic is an audio engineering and production workshop for girls, femmes, and non-binary students. 

The workshop will enable students to make their own beats, mix music, and produce podcasts. The program is free of charge! 

The program will run every Wednesday from 3 PM to 4 PM.

Youth MOJO is a leadership development program at Chinese Progressive Association for high school students in San Francisco. We work on social issues affecting working class families such as:

We do this by empowering young people to work towards positive change in our communities. 

Through Youth MOJO, folks develop and strengthen leadership, public speaking, communication, advocacy, and organizing skills, in a friendly and engaging environment.

Participants can receive a $150 stipend for participating in MOJO.

YAWAV: Clementine Collective is a year long leadership program at the Community Youth Center dedicated to the positive empowerment and development of Asian / Pacific Islander LGBTQIA+ youth and their allies in San Francisco.

Clementine Collective participants learn about API and LGBTQIA+ identity, history, and culture, while creating community with other young people. Participants also create and facilitate workshops for the wider community about LGBTQIA+ topics. Our goals are to strengthen the resilience, pride, knowledge, and skills of youth leaders so that we can educate others and build healthy communities.


Please Note: This program is a cohort of YAWAV (Young Asian Women Against Violence).
Applicants are allowed to apply to both programs, but are only allowed to participate in one

The Youth Advisory Council, a project of Asian Pacific Islander Legal Outreach, is a group of Bay Area Youth aged 14-18 that works to stop domestic and dating violence & spread awareness of API community issues by educating their peers through trainings, events, and media arts projects.

The YAC members receive paid stipends based on meeting specific participation needs of the program!

Job Readiness for English Language Learners (JRELL)

Job Readiness for English Language Learners (JRELL) is a workforce program that provides youth, aged 14-18 who are primarily English Language Learners, with a focus on removing barriers to employment through a skills building curriculum to ensure they are ready and prepared to succeed in school, work, and life. Program participants will participate in job readiness training, career exploration and enrichment workshops twice a week. Workshop topics include resume building, interview preparation, professional communication and job search techniques, etc.

Job Readiness for English Language Learners (JRELL)

Job Readiness for English Language Learners (JRELL) is a workforce program that provides youth, aged 14-18 who are primarily English Language Learners, with a focus on removing barriers to employment through a skills building curriculum to ensure they are ready and prepared to succeed in school, work, and life. Program participants will participate in job readiness training, career exploration and enrichment workshops twice a week. Workshop topics include resume building, interview preparation, professional communication and job search techniques, etc.

The Kalpulli Leadership Program mission is to educate, organize, and empower youth!

In the indigenous Nahuatl language “Kalpulli” literally means “large house”.  Kalpulli’s are neighborhoods or groups organized to carry out a common purpose such cultural activities, the education, protection, or the care for community members.

Our youth program this Summer, in addition to engaging workshops on issues of class, race, gender, immigration, and more, will also be working on People's Recovery Campaign where we will identify the needs of our community as we recover from COVID-19 pandemic.

Summer In The City Internship

The Summer In The City internship is a paid leadership program for San Francisco LGBTQQ+ youth and allies. We will collectively create a virtual LGBTQQ+ event or final project of your choosing.

REQUIREMENTS:

This summer’s internship will be remote, so you can use a phone or computer to join us.

Inspiring Young Emerging Leaders (I-YEL) - Park Hop Program

Bay Area and African American history come together in a PAID program that is just for a select few students in your school. You will learn about important history that occurred in the Bay Area as told by Park Rangers. This week long program pays up to $250 and potential to get credits for school. This program will be online through Zoom.

Gender Sexuality Diversities

GSD supports queer, questioning and ally youth in understanding power, privilege, and oppression more deeply, as well as their own experiences around gender identity and sexual orientation. GSD is open to all youth, and is centered in supporting queer and questioning youth

Due to COVID-19, we will be moving forward with a virtual program for the fall semester, where interns will have the opportunity to do remote work with mentors, attend job readiness workshops, and practice community building with a cohort of 30 other youth.

Applications are open for the fall internship, UndocuWorkforce!

This internship is for youth who are motivated to learn about the connection between immigration and LGBTQ history. It is a fun and easy way to become a socially conscious individual ready to make a change in the world — all the while earning an educational scholarship!

 In Next Gen, students ages 14-17 will learn how to tell their own story and stories of people they care about through audio, video, game code design and animation using industry-standard equipment and software in a supportive, collaborative environment.

Oasis For Girls partners with young women in high school to help them cultivate the skills, knowledge, and confidence to discover their dreams and build strong futures.


Begins: October 5th - December 11th, 2020


Upon completion of the program, youth also earn a $300 stipend!

MYEEP Internship Program 2020-21

MYEEP provides 60 hours of training through an interactive curriculum specifically written for high school aged youth designed to help them build competencies and skills so that they will be successful in the workplace.
