Earlier this year in February Xiaomi launched its much awaited phone Redmi Note 5 Pro with some decent specs and aggressive pricing. Redmi Note 5 Pro has been doing great in Indian markets almost maintaining out of stock label during its flash sales. Holding on to their tradition they are launching yet another competitive phone Mi A2 which is also known as Mi 6X in china. It will be exclusively available on amazon in India on 8th of August starting 4 PM. Will Mi A2 be a good competitor to Redmi Note 5 Pro? Let’s check out in this Redmi Note 5 Pro vs Mi A2 comparison.
The Mi A2 looks great when you compare its features with Redmi Note 5 Pro but it lacks slightly in the battery capacity, while Redmi Note 5 Pro has 4000mah battery, Mi A2 got just 3010mAh capacity. Another disappointment will be to music lovers as Mi A2 doesn’t comes with a 3.5mm audio jack. But these specs are on just paper which clearly shows how well Mi A2 is. So, let’s check out how they go in real life parameters.
Redmi Note 5 Pro vs Mi A2 Design and build quality:
In terms of design and build quality both have same screen size of 5.99 inches and same form factors, same rear camera setup and fingerprint sensor placement. Both the devices doesn’t comes with notch which is pretty common these days, thanks to iphone X. Both the devices looks exactly same from front. However, Mi A2 has total metal body and antenna bands on front and top at the back while Redmi Note 5 Pro has plastic casing on top and bottom for signal reception. One has to look closer to distinguish between them, though Mi A2 comes with some extra colour variations and slightly thinner than Redmi note 5 Pro. Both the devices comes with aluminum body and looks and feel similar in hand.
Redmi Note 5 Pro vs Mi A2 Software & UI:
In terms of software and UI here comes the major difference between them. Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with MIUI 9.5 based on android 8.0 which will be soon updated to MIUI 10 while the Mi A2 comes with Google’s stock OS called Android One which is based on android 8.0 Oreo. The best thing about Mi A2’s android one is that it will be updated to latest android version as soon as Google releases new Android update.
Redmi Note 5 Pro vs Mi A2 Camera:
Here comes the major difference between both the devices. Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with 12+5 MP camera setup while Mi A2 comes with 20+12 MP rear camera setup. Talking about the front camera both are same here again with 20MP Selfie shooter with f2.2 aperture. Clearly Mi A2 excels in camera segment.
Redmi Note 5 Pro vs Mi A2 Performance:
Looking at the specs sheet the MI A2 looks slightly better than Redmi Note 5 Pro as Mi A2 comes with Snapdragon 660 processor while Redmi Note 5 Pro has Snapdragon 636 SOC. The gaming performance should be similar too as Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with Adreno 509 GPU while Mi A2 comes with Adreno 512. So, Mi A2 excels here in performance but not with a great margin.
Redmi Note 5 Pro vs Mi A2 Battery:
This is the area where both the devices don’t match with each other. Redmi Note 5 Pro has 4000mAh battery while the battery capacity is slightly less in Mi A2 which is 3010 mAh but it compensates this reduction in battery capacity with a higher version of quick charge i.e 3.0. Redmi Note 5 Pro has Quick charge 2.0 technology. So the competition is tough here.
Both the devices are similar from looks to build quality and feel. It would be hard to exactly distinguish between them especially from front side. However you can differentiate the devices from back due to the presence of plastic metallic housing on top and bottom in Redmi Note 5 Pro and antenna band in Mi A2 which looks more stylish. The camera is better in Mi A2 than Redmi Note 5 Pro. The processor is slightly better in Mi A2 than Redmi Note 5 Pro. The battery is slightly less in Mi A2 which is 3010mAh but it will work fine because it has quick charge 3.0 support. The major setback in Mi A2 is the loss of 3.5mm headphone jack. Mi A2 is slightly better than Redmi Note 5 Pro but not with a huge margin. So, if Mi A2 is priced around Redmi Note 5 Pro than one should definitely buy the former but if the pricing of Mi A2 is higher, then one shouldn’t think to buy Note 5 Pro.
