On the Road Again Trips
The FUMPC On the Road Again ministry is designed to help older adults in the church and community to have opportunities for Christian socialization, travel, and fun as they explore areas around us on monthly trips. This group began in 2014 and has traveled to various places around Missouri to see the sights, eat at great locations, and share in fellowship. Transportation to the various locations is provided by church members.
In May 2016, the On the Road Again ministry went on their first overnight trip to Branson. Since that time, they have gone to Branson two more times, and an overnight to Kansas City and northern Indiana to Amish Country. More overnight trips are planned for those who are interested. We are presently planning a trip to Branson from Nov. 8-10, 2018.
For more information about the On the Road Again trips, please contact the church office at 573-564-2134 or group leaders: Jan Hankinson, Val or Mike Spirz, Gary or Janet Heim, or Anita Davis.
FUMPC On the Road Again News
The FUMPC On the Road Again group will travel to Lake of the Ozarks, on Monday, September 24th departing at 8:00 a.m. from the church. This trip will feature exploring the Willmore Lodge Museum – where the history of Bagnell Dam is kept. This museum houses interactive exhibits, video and audio, historic documents, photos, and actual equipment and tools used during the dam’s construction. Afterwards, we will go to the dam and look at the lower end behind it. Unfortunately, they do not give dam tours anymore due to security issues.
After strolling around the dam, you can check out a few of the highlights on the strip. These might include stops at the Dogpatch Gift Store – which has been in existence since 1947, with unique novelties in the 10,000 square foot gift shop; Grandma’s Candy Kitchen – which sells chocolates, fudge, taffy, bulk candy, and more; or the Leather Man – featuring quality leather apparel and accessories, footwear, bags and more. Another option is going to the Outlet Mall for some retail therapy.
Those attending will also have the opportunity to board the Hankinson’s boat and head to and/or from Shady Gator’s restaurant for lunch. Seeing the beautiful homes and sights from the lakeside is a real treat. Be sure to dress appropriately for the day’s weather and plan to go for a boat ride. Shady Gators is a fun lakeside restaurant with a unique menu of delicious sandwiches, salads, and some unique meals as well. If you’ve ever wanted to eat alligator, here’s your chance. But don’t sweat it; there is a wide variety of other selections to enjoy. Be advised, there are stairs to climb to get onto the boat and into the restaurant.
Before heading back home, you’ll enjoy a cool stop at Randy’s Frozen Custard – a lake tradition. You might want to dine on an Ozark Turtle Sundae, or the Strawanna, or some other sweet of your choosing. You won’t want to miss out on this lake legend!
Please contact the church office at 564-2134 to add your name to the list for reservations. This trip is designed for older adults and their friends in our church. For more information about this trip please contact either: Jan Hankinson, Val or Mike Spirz, or Anita Davis. We have volunteers who will drive to the locations, so just plan to come and join us as we are “on the road again!” Hope to see you Sept. 24th!

The Sunshine Quilters is a group of individuals who meet on Monday mornings around 9:00 a.m. to hand sew on quilts that have been brought in for them to complete. There is wonderful fellowship, plenty of hand sewing needles, and veteran quilters who will gladly teach beginners in the quilting techniques. Anyone of any age is welcome to come join for fellowship and quilting.
Cards are sent to nursing home residents and those who are home-bound. Our church is really good at serving our seniors.
