平日に気軽に楽しめるプラン。刷毛を用いた伝統的な着物の染色技法で、お好みの色に染め、世界で1枚のオリジナルストールを製作します。初めての方でも安心して取り組める内容で、職人が丁寧にサポートいたします。日本の染色文化や歴史、工房について、職人による解説付き。オプションで、ぼかし染めも体験可能です。

手描き友禅の地染めの際や、色無地の染めに用いられる伝統技法「引き染め」で絹100%の白生地をお好みの色に染め、世界で1枚のオリジナル帯揚げを製作します。 製作中は各工程を職人が実演・解説。色作り・染めの工程を2時間かけて体験することによって、染色の知識、着物文化への愛着が養われます。オプションでぼかし染めも体験可能です。

This plan will let you to experience dyeing a traditional Japanese Tenugui towel at Fujiya Sen-Kobo Dyeing Workshop in Takadano-Baba, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo. You’ll get to draw the design of your choice on your Tenugui towel using the traditional Hiki-Zome technique, which involves the hand-brushed dyeing of fabric.

Both the right tools and the right environment are essential to skillfully dyeing attractive work. The experience of dyeing cloth in an earthen-floor workshop that still breathes the spirit of pre-modern Japan will feel a warm invitation to an earlier time.

Hosted by Fujiya Sen-Kobo Dyeing Workshop in Takadano-Baba, Shinjuku, Tokyo, this program takes you inside an active studio to experience the traditional dyeing technique of Hiki-Zome up close as artisans go about their daily work.

Started by learning about Kimono and Japan’s dyeing culture before accompanying the artisans deeper into the studio. Follow the entire process, from stretching out the white bolt of cloth and applying dye with a brush, through　“Mushi” steaming and “Mizumoto” rinsing, until the fabric is fully dyed. At certain stages of the process, you can even try the work yourself using the same tools as the artisans. By watching, listening, and getting hands-on, discover the skills and wisdom behind this traditional form of craftsmanship. 

As a memento of your participation, take a Tenugui towel, individually hand-dyed by an artisan, back home with you.
