Andy: I'm Andy. I'm here with Set Alone, A band from Las Vegas Nevada who just preformed here at the Che Cafe, these are the band members.
Sean: My name's Sean.
Waybao: I'm Waybao.
Angel: I’m Angel.
Brayden: I’m Brayden.
Damian: And I'm Damian.
Q1-
Andy: How'd you come up with the band name?
Waybao: Set Alone pretty much means like to be set apart from certain- I think like definition speaking, it means to like be away from the group, so to be like set alone from everybody else. And we think that we're set alone from every other band. No, that's no disrespect to any other band. You all are great, but we just think we're a little different.
Q2-
Andy: When did you guys all start playing together?
Angel: So, originally, it was him [Damian] and I for a little while. So there was just this drummer and guitarist, and then eventually we brought this guy along [Sean]. This was I want to say, like two years ago at this point, right? Yeah. Like two years ago at this point, and then eventually after like, I want to say what four or five months, we got this guy [Waybao] and then after like four months of searching for a goddamn basist, we finally find Brayden and we actually love him. He killed it. But yeah, we've been doing this for a about, like a year and some change now and it's been amazing ever since.
Q3-
Andy: what bands or artists inspire your band?
Damian: Shit. I'd say Linkin Park.
Waybao: You You've been here for two days. What do you think?
Brayden: Yeah, I mean, for my personal, like, play style, bands like Acrania, Vulvodynia. Yeah.
Angel: We're definitely a lot inspired by Avenged Sevenfold.
Waybao: I don't like Avenged Sevenfold. But that's okay.
[all other members] L take.
Waybao: I don't give a fuck. I'll die on that throne. Uhh.. Slipknot, Day to Remember. People like that.
Sean: As they lay dying, Metal Core as fuck.
Q4-
Andy: What's your favorite venue to play in San Diego?
Angel: The Che Cafe, of course. Where else? It was freaking sick over here. Everyone was moshing and having a good time. That's part of it. Cause we're from Las Vegas, right? So it's like a six hour drive because of traffic, and so half the time, it's like we're thinking of ourselves like, oh, we pray that there's people that actually enjoy it but they make it so much better. So the fact that there's actually good energy, it makes us want to be here. Please keep giving that energy. We want that energy.
Waybao: Okay. This is the… I think this is, Have we performed in San Diego before? Yeah. Oh, yeah, we did. We performed at the Beat.
Angel: Bro forgets everything.
Q5-
Andy: Do you write songs together or separately?
Angel: Oh. Okay, so it kind of depends. When we write our songs, it's either he [Sean] starts it off with the lead guitar and then I put a rhythm and he [Damian] puts drums. He would create a song like entirely. He's like a music genius for some reason. I don't know why. Or I'll make like a rhythm track with some like basic drums and then it'll fill in the gaps and then he'll [Waybao] put some lyrics over it.
Waybao: If there's one thing that you need to know, I don't do shit, okay? I, my whole band makes the beats, and then they just send them to me and I write lyrics. I don't help with shit.
Q6-
Andy: Which song have you guys means the most to you guys?
Damian: This might be a hot take. Fuck it. Find My Way. It's an oldie, but that shit's fire. I love it.
Angel: There's an Audible Representation of my Mental Sanity, I was going through a little weird time during that time, so it was nice, like, really good to see that song go to life.
Waybao: I don't know.. Okay, either Clinical only because it's very slip-knotty and I love Slipknot and that song is very fun to like... I don't know, but, that song has aura, bro. Like when I am offstage and like, I slowly walk on stage as the song starts, like, that shit is aura. So probably clinical.
Sean: I either say Drag me low or Bitter Recollection, I like both of those songs.
Q7-
Andy: What's been your favorite memory as the band so far? One by one.
Brayden: Probably the show. I've been in the band for a week
Waybao: Bros been in the band for a week, so he ain't got a lot of memories..
Angel: This one was kind of like a weird, like being outside of the band kind of in a sense, but we went like karaokeing one time a couple times. And that is honestly so fun because it's fun playing our own stuff, but when we're just singing our hearts out, not worrying about key or anything, just like screaming basically into a mic is so much fun.
Sean: I think one of my favorite memories is it was on my birthday. We all went and raced go-karts, and it was so fun just competing with these guys and just hauling ass on a gokart track.,
Waybao: I don't know. I feel like for me specifically, a lot of the times my memories come from like, it sounds very morbid but like bad things. Like, um like when we have issues with each other, the fact that we're able to like.. Those moments when we all can, like, sit down, like, together and like, talk shit out and be able to actually communicate shit. If you're going to be in a band, rule number one is you need to be able to communicate. And I feel like that I cherish those moments a lot because like, I'm a very talkative person and I like to be very personal and open about my life, so when we're able to like, open up and be like, hey, you know what you did is fucked up or what you did is kind of weird, like, and talk about it, that- I like that.
Damian: Lowkey, I'm going to say when we played at the Doghouse, that shit, shout out to that shit. Shout out to Doghouse, by the way. Shout out to Doghouse. That shit was fun as fuck. You know, we fuck with the crowd, the crowd fuck with us, good vibes, cool ass people.
Q8-
Andy: if someone's never heard your music, what tracks should they start with?
Angel: Ooh, I'm going to say keyboard Warrior just because that's a song that compasses everything. See, we are at our best when we let each other do our own thing. He's the lead guitarist, let him be the league guit. I'm rhythm, let me be rhythm, he's drums, let him be drums. We thrive when we're in our own lane, and that's the song where we all did our own thing, and it shows and it shows the best strength of all of us.
Waybao: And it's the first song we recorded with Asteroid Records. Shout out Cody at Asteroid, Shout out, my man. And it just sounds different. Like, if you listen to Clinical and then you listen to Audible and then you listen to Keyboard Warrior, like, it's night and fucking day. So keyboard warrior 100%. Yeah, for sure.
Q9-
Andy: All right, and for my last question, any upcoming shows or projects, you're excited about?
Waybao: We have Keyboard Warriors, stream that shit. We just dropped it a week ago. We're dropping new merch. Probably by the time this video comes out, go to our Instagram. It's probably on there so buy some shit. Shows. I mean, not really. Stay tuned for Desert Shred Fest next year. May 10th, we host a festival every year.
Sean: Yeah. I know it show. The Terror Attack Festival, at Great Witch back home [Las Vegas].
