With songs like ‘One of Us’ and ‘Eyes Above’ on the setlist for this show, fans were undoubtedly excited. Kicking it off with ‘The Hounds of Anubis,’ the crowd’s energy was practically shaking the floor with anticipation. Prepared to mosh within the first ten seconds of the song, Telle Smith (vocalist) brought the house down with his vocals and unmatched energy. I’ve never seen a vocalist quite like him before. Jumping around the stage without missing a note, he was unstoppable.
The World Alive is a metalcore band from Phoenix, Arizona, that was formed in 2008. The band gained popularity after the release of their 2010 debut album, "Deceiver." After all these years, The World Alive is still kicking and releasing new music; the group has managed to amass a whopping two million monthly listeners on Spotify. This only goes to show that these scene veterans are here to stay.
The guitarists Jose DelRio and Logan Abernathy stole the show with their explosive sound! Every note was so effortless as they raced across the frets of their guitars. With seasoned drummer Devin Attard on drums, you could feel each beat kick in your chest. Making sure every song was not only heard but also felt.
It was Smith’s birthday show, and to make it even more unforgettable, they brought out the acoustic guitar. The band performed ‘Slow Burn,’ and the energy in the room shifted. It felt so familial, watching people get closer and swaying as opposed to the insane mosh pits from before. It was emotional; you could tell that this song meant a lot to them.
Right after this song, a surprise cake was brought onstage by all the opening bands and crew to sing a very special happy birthday to Telle, kicking the energy right back up for the last two songs of their set, performing ‘War with You’ and ‘Life Cycles.’ It was a great soundtrack to end off their set.
As we all know, when the band says goodnight the first time, it’s not really over. I’m sure the crowd was immensely grateful when they rushed back out onstage to perform ‘New Reality’ and ‘2012.’ With those two songs being the actual end of an incredible setlist, the crowd was left wanting more; this band was addictive, to say the least. If I know one thing for sure, it’s that you don’t want to miss The Word Alive’s next tour.
