I have been fortunate throughout my life that the soda gods have blessed me many, many times. Today, however, they decided to play a cruel, malicious prank on me instead.
This is Uproar, a Food Lion exclusive. Since there are no Food Lions on this side of the country, I was originally planning on grabbing some the next time we visited Curtis’s family on the east coast, but these plans recently changed when the news broke that this flavor was being discontinued. Not wanting to risk missing out, I went ahead and ordered it online.
I was only able to find it in a two-liter size, which was a bit problematic due to our main refrigerator being broken at the time. I couldn’t fit it in my Dew fridge alongside everything else that was temporarily crammed in there, and I really wanted to drink it cold, so I opted to wait. After our new fridge arrived yesterday and all non-Dew items were moved into it, I put the bottle of Uproar in my Dew fridge overnight so that I may finally taste it properly today.
Between the geographical distance and the refrigerator situation, the anticipation was understandably quite high as I brought the drink to my lips. On one hand, I felt that my patience deserved to be rewarded, but on the other hand, knowing that this flavor was discontinued, I was hoping that I wouldn’t like it too much.
Uproar is labeled as a “berry kiwi” Mountain Dew. Well folks, I’m here to tell you that it tastes like neither berry nor kiwi.
This motherf***er tastes remarkably similar to Typhoon.
For those unfamiliar with Typhoon, it is a tropical punch-flavored Mountain Dew that was released for a limited time in 2010, 2011, and 2022. It also happens to be my number one favorite Dew ever.
In my opinion, Uproar is essentially a basic version of Typhoon. It’s not as complex of a flavor, but it still has those same fruit punch vibes. It very easily could pass for a Typhoon prototype.
I can’t believe that after all these years of desperately wishing Typhoon would become a permanent flavor, I found the next closest thing… nowhere near me, and already discontinued.
Mountain Dew has REALLY shattered my heart with this one. My god.
I bought another bottle.
