For those who read my review of Hard Baja Blast that I posted last night, now it’s time to review the other flavor I tried yesterday: Hard Livewire.

In regards to deciding which Mountain Dew flavors to make alcoholic, Livewire is both an absolutely perfect and absolutely bizarre choice.

I say bizarre because of Livewire’s availability. It’s a permanent, year-round flavor, but it is pretty difficult to find. The only places I’ve ever seen it are gas stations in the middle of nowhere, and in the background of the TV show Superstore. I’m kinda surprised that they decided to include it in the Hard lineup, considering I feel like Indiana Jones every time I come across the regular version.

All that being said, whoever made that decision was very smart. If you’ve ever had a screwdriver-flavored Smirnoff Ice, or a blood orange-flavored Mike’s Hard Lemonade, it’s obvious why Livewire deserves to be here.

Like Hard Baja Blast, this one is also zero sugar, and therefore also has a bit of that fake sweetener taste to it. I’m still not crazy about that aspect of it, but it does seem to blend in with Hard Livewire better than it blends in with Hard Baja Blast. All in all, Hard Livewire both looks and tastes a lot closer to the original soda, while still having that nice alcoholic kick.

Two flavors down, two flavors to go! So far, Hard Livewire is winning, but we’ll see how things pan out after I drink the rest. More reviews to come!
